Call To Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:13 p.m. by R.E. Scott Newton.
R.E.REPORT: Scott Newton welcomed everyone to the April meeting.
Scott thanked several members who helped man the CNYR SCCA booth at the recent Syracuse
Motorama show, including Mike Gagliardi (and his friend “The Stig”), Jay Cartini, Ed Leubner, Mark Bizzozero and Dan Hurley.
Scott had nothing else to report.
ASST.R.E.REPORT: Ed Leubner said the turnout for the Motorama was very good on Sunday of the event and interest in our SCCA display was helped by a competition Subaru displayed next to us by Greg
Georgiadies which had run at the Targa Newfoundland. Ed also thanked the others that helped out.
TREASURER REPORT: Jay Cartini was absent, no report, although Scott Newton mentioned that Burdick Fiat will become one of our sponsors.
SECRETARY REPORT: Bob Holcomb returned from Florida made a motion asking that the meeting minutes for March as they appeared on our website be approved. Mike Gagliardi seconded, motion carried.
Bob said that he was able to work F&C at two SCCA events at Palm Beach International while Snow Birding, along with the Daytona 24 HRS. He also visited The North Turn Restaurant on Daytona Beach which is located where the cars would turn left off the beach and enter the paved portion of the 1948 race track, then race south on S. Atlantic Ave., then make a left turn back onto the sand beach. The restaurant has loads of memorabilia from 1948 up to current NASCAR racing.
SOLO REPORT: Mark Bizzozero thanked those who helped with the recent spring cleaning of our SOLO van, including Scott Newton, Dan Hurley and Mark Mangicaro.
Our first spring event will be at Cherry Valley on Sunday, April 27th
Several SOLO locations are still being looked into, including Valley Plaza and the NYS Fairgrounds, the microd track in Groton and possibly a location at Fort Drum.
RALLY CROSS REPORT: Dan Hurley reported the last event was cancelled due to adverse conditions at the Walczyk farm, that would be MUD which made the track unsafe.
CNYRP UPDATE: Mike Gagliardi said all is progressing and they should have a ribbon cutting in May. Financing is in place and the paper work required by NYS has been sent in. The entire facility may actually end up larger than originally planned but that is on a wait and see basis. There is speculation that the dirt track portion of the facility may be up and running by Super Dirt Week in October, 2014.
F&C REPORT: Mick Levy mentioned the upcoming Green Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, which will have already taken place by the time this report is published.
Rumors continue as to when Watkins Glen will receive a full repaving, some say after NASCAR, 2014, some say not until the end of the season in 2014, which has a Chump Car event listed for November 1st & 2nd, 2014, while others say the repave will be in 2015. A wait and see will be needed.
OLD BUSINESS: Mike Gagliardi reminded members that the annual Concours show at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY July 12 & 13 will feature CORVETTE.
