CNYR SCCA Meeting Minutes, Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Call To Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:22 p.m. by R.E. Scott Newton.
R.E.REPORT: Scott Newton welcomed all to the meeting and asked if anyone had suffered any damage from the storms that passed through CNY on Tuesday the 8th.
None had so everyone was thankful for that.
Scott reminded everyone of the annual picnic to be held at the Onondaga Yacht Club on Onondaga Lake on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
The time for the picnic is 6 – 9 p.m. with a cost of $10 per person.
ASST.R.E.REPORT: Ed Leubner said he was very pleased with the June 22nd SOLO run at the New York State Fairgrounds.
Ed also said that he, Jon Coffin, Mike Donofrio attended the recent CHUMP CAR event at the Calabogie circuit in Canada over the July 4th weekend.
Saturday they had the joy of an engine change while Sunday was a much better day.
Jon Coffin learned to double check that he brought along proper identification before leaving home.
SECRETARY REPORT: Bob Holcomb made a motion that the minutes for June be accepted as they appeared on our web-site. Mike Gagliardi seconded, motion carried.
Bob mentioned that he had a discussion with Board Chair John Walsh at the recent GLEN MAJORS event at Watkins Glen. John told Bob that his schedule is quite full between duties as Area 10 Gov. and his new position as Board Chair, often requiring hours of conference calls each week. However, he still hopes to pay CNYR a visit during a fall meeting.
Bob commented that at the MAJORS weekend, with 27 different classes of cars, between Saturday and Sunday events, there were winners from 18 states and one from Ontario, Canada.
TREASURER REPORT: Jay Cartini absent, no report.
RALLY CROSS REPORT: Jim Quattro reported that he has temporarily returned as Chief for Rally Cross.
There are currently no events on the schedule but Jim hopes for 2 or 3 events when the season gets under way. More information will be posted when it becomes available.
Jim is still looking for a permanent Rally Cross Chair.
SOLO REPORT: Mark Bizzozero reported that the June 22nd SOLO at the NYS Fairgrounds was a huge success with a great course and a good turnout (88) of drivers, we made money. An estimate of 19 novices ran the event.
A question during the event from a worker concerning the safety of the driver window apparently caused some confusion but the end result was the buck stopped at the Safety Steward, with all agreeing on that.
Unfortunately, our SOLO van expired during transport from the Fairgrounds to the Cherry Valley Kart Track so a share of the profits from the Fairground event will be eaten up in repair costs.
Our next event is scheduled for July 20th at the Cherry Valley facility.
Rob Sgarlata started a discussion about trying to schedule a second 2014 event at the NYS Fairgrounds before the fall weather turns nasty. Much discussion followed and Mark Bizzozero will look into it.
Scott Newton said he had a negative response to using any of the paved areas at Ft. Drum near Watertown.
A location in Fulton isn’t available until one retail store moves from the plaza.
Mike Gagliardi said that CNYRP would not be read for use as a SOLO location before the 2015 season.
F&C REPORT: Mick Levy reported on the recent Tudor 6HR weekend, along with the GLEN MAJORS weekend.
Mick got to work S/F with the regular IMSA Tudor S/F group for the 6HR weekend.
Bob Holcomb worked a flag station all 3 days of the 6HR weekend.
For the GLEN MAJORS weekend, Mick was FM and Bob was AFM.
There was a large number of cars with some good racing in SRF and SM along with several of the other groups, along with a good number of out of area SCCA flaggers.
The next event will be the Glen Region Regional event July 19th and 20th, anyone that would like to come and flag is more than welcome.
COMPETITON REPORT: Mike Gagliardi mentioned that Brandon Kidd ran his second PLAYBOY MX-5 CUP SERIES event in the past two years.
This time it was at the Houston Indy Car street course weekend.
Brandon finished 13th on Friday, June 27th and 10th on Saturday, June 28th.
Pretty good for his 1st street course and only his 2nd non-oval track event.
Mike said the paperwork for the CNYRP was delayed by the storms on Tuesday, July 8th, but everything looks good to start construction, with Gov. Cuomo planning to attend the ground breaking when it is scheduled.
Scott Newton gave a heads up that will be a $1,000 to win kart event at the Cherry Valley facility on Sat., July 19th. Registration is only open until 9 a.m. and there will also be a pig roast to fill empty stomachs.
Mike reminded everyone that is the same date at a classic car show featuring Corvette as the major make to be held on the grounds of the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY.
That event gets started at 9 a.m.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
50/50: Won by Mike Gagliardi for $19.
ADJOURNMENT: Rex Franklin moved to adjourn the meeting, Mike Donofrio seconded, motion carried and meeting adjourned at 8:31 p.m.
